The Sun Will Rise Again: Leila Mulla on How Positivity Can Help Japan Recover from Tragedy

Leila Mulla is a firm believer of the power of positive thinking. Thinking positively helps the mind anticipate happiness, joy, health, and most importantly, a positive outcome out of every possible situation and action. Adapting a mental attitude that fosters positivity is conducive to growth, expansion, and success.

During times of severe distress or tragedy, it is common to hear people say “Think positive!” to the parties affected. This is because thinking positively not only helps victims of tragedy come to terms with what just happen, it can help them cope with the situation and turn things around, enabling them to find the silver lining and move forward with their lives. Leila Mulla cites the Japanese people as an example – despite the overwhelming loss of lives and properties brought about by the recent earthquake (the strongest their country has experienced so far) and tsunami, the Japanese people remain resilient. Days after the tragedy, they started picking up the pieces of their former lives – they go to work and to school, they go about their normal activities, despite threats of another mega-quake and the radiation fiasco. Food may be scarce, their roads may have cracks on them, electricity has not been fully restored to all affected areas, transportation is a daily dilemma for commuters, but Japan remains optimistic that this, too, shall pass. And the sun will rise in the east again. Such is the power of positive thinking and having a positive attitude – it can help a nation move past tragedy.
