Never alone: Leila Mulla on loneliness

Loneliness and being alone are different things. You can feel lonely even if you are not alone. Leila Mulla recognizes loneliness as one of the darkest emotions that afflict people. But there is light, and it is not that hard to find.

From Suntimes.com

Maxwell Maltz said, “If you make friends with yourself you will never be alone.” This means that you have to love yourself and enjoy your own company. Be happy with yourself and feel good about not needing to be with other people just to be happy. Make yourself your ideal friend. This is the first step to conquering your loneliness.

From Businessinsider.com

Loneliness is selfish by nature. To deal with this, you can go out and help others. You can go to charity institutions and foundations as a volunteer. Leila Mulla says that this is a positive distraction, converting the negative energy into something beneficial to those in need. A good insight came from Dag Hammarskjold. He said, "What makes loneliness an anguish is not that I have no one to share my burden, but this: I have only my own burden to bear."

Learn to accept your responsibilities. You can’t go on blaming others for your actions and for your choices. Seeing how you got yourself into the mess will help you sort things out, and find doable solutions to your problems. Focus on the positive things. Talk to a friend or keep a journal. The latter is a good way to express your feelings if you have no one to confide to. Finally, you can exercise. This distracts you, and releases endorphins that actually make you feel better.

Leila Mulla: Nurture the heart and soul with feel-good movies

Optimists like Leila Mulla take pleasure in attracting positive things in life through the books they read, the people they encounter, the places they visit, the words they utter, the songs they listen to, and the movies they watch.

From Leila Mulla

Movies have the power to influence minds and behavior. Movies filled with negative imagery like violence, exploitation, and death will somehow leave a negative mark on the subconscious mind; whereas, films with humor, inspiring messages, and happy endings nourish the heart and soul.
Virginia Tech presented two studies that said: “...prolonged exposure to gratuitous violence in the media can escalate subsequent hostile behaviors and, among some viewers, foster greater acceptance of violence as a means of conflict resolution.”
That’s why Leila Mulla and other positive attitude advocates believe that feel-good movies are very beneficial in building a world of positivity.

Here are a few perfect examples:

1. Forrest Gump – This is a story of a simple man with low mental capacity but with huge dreams in life—becoming bigger in the end than his obstacles as he overcomes his childhood struggles.

From Leila Mulla

2. Sound of Music – This is a classic musical film of a family of singers trapped in the middle of the Nazi rule in Austria, but escapes the crisis and lives happily through it.

From August 25, 2011

3. Pursuit of Happyness – This drama is based on a true struggle of a poor man. With determination, he fights poverty and attains financial success.

New York Cares: Leila Mulla's insights on volunteerism

From Leila Mulla

What’s a good way to rub off your positive outlook in life on others? For Leila Mulla, positivity is best spread around by giving back to the community. New York Cares, a widely recognized non-profit organization for charity, stands to be Leila’s chosen venue for allowing her to do just that.

Leila believes that contributing to the welfare of other people who are in need will give volunteers a fulfilling sense of contentment. By volunteering, she can somehow share her optimism to the people who have been devastated by the harsh ordeals of life. She relates that volunteerism is “a way to get and keep people involved.”

New York Cares is Leila’s favorite organization because “you can handpick what you will actually be doing, and you can also pick out the days you will be doing it.” Leila Mulla likes it that you can arrange your schedule and choose which projects you intend to participate in. New York Cares’ programs fall along the lines of:

• Helping homeless kids get their first library cards.

• Tutoring children and adults.

• Playing sports with children who lack access to recreational facilities.

• Revitalizing parks, schools, and neighborhoods.

• Teaching financial literacy and job skills to low-income adults.

• Befriending lonely and isolated seniors.

Leila Mulla: It’s all about attitude

Leila Mulla believes that positive thinking holds the key to achieve a smooth sailing life and an optimistic outlook. It’s all about the attitude. However, keeping a positive attitude comes with practice and determination.
From Leila Mulla

To achieve and keep a positive outlook in life, it is best that you consider the following:
1. Evaluate things. When something bad happens, don’t let negative thoughts overwhelm the positive ones. Instead, evaluate what happened by analyzing details from what might have been to what should have not been done.
2. Develop rational thinking over emotional tendencies. Emotions keep people from thinking.
From Leila Mulla

3. Move forward and don’t linger on negative things from the past. Leila Mulla believes that dwelling on ideas that are hateful or dreadful can only make things worse. Instead, watch out for things to be excited about.
4. Read, sing, and watch materials that are inspiring. They emit positivism.
5. Hold on to people who exude positive, winning, and happy attitudes. They make situations light and easy.
6. Make it a point to get involved in something enjoyable as it helps alleviate stress. This may be an outdoor activity, hobby, or anything unique from your daily routine.
7. Learn to laugh at yourself. Personal blunders and mistakes can be reassuring and motivating at the same time.
8. Deepen spiritual being.

Leila Mulla: Optimism has made some of history’s greatest men successful

From Leila Mulla

Leila Mulla believes that positive thinking and optimism will yield personal developments, emotional growth, and professional excellence. Inspiring people to do well in their craft and helping bring out their best assets through positive reinforcement will make the world a better and happier place to live in.

History has produced ethicists and philosophers who aimed at doing just that - making the world a better place - by accentuating positive thoughts and burying the negative ones. These philosophers have succeeded in their own personal battles and achieved the kind of life they had been longing for through hard work, patience, optimism, and faith to the Supreme Being. Like Leila Mulla, these people made their lives a vessel of pure hope and love, and not of pessimism. These philosophers include the following:

Xun Zi (ca. 312–230 BC) was a Chinese Confucian philosopher who had an important impact and contribution to one of the Hundred Schools of Thought. Xun Zi believed that man could become ‘eternally good’ through education and ritual. He also considered that ethical norms had been created to rectify mankind.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869–1948) was a political and ideological leader of India during the Indian independence movement. His philosophy, anchored on the principle of ‘total nonviolence,’ has led him to inspire other movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

Thomas Berry, C.P. (1914–2009) was a Catholic priest, cultural historian, and eco-theologian. An advocate of “eco-spirituality,” Berry is famous for his deep understanding that history is an inspiration that will guide people to do better in their personal pursuits.

Leila Mulla on the Link Between Staying Positive and Finding True Love

Leila Mulla, an advocate of positivity, gives you yet another reason to banish negative thoughts, vibes, and emotions from your system and replace them with positive ones: living positively can help you find true love.

Finding true love has been a lifelong quest for most single people. They literally exhaust all possible means they have, hoping to find that one special person who will stand by them through thick and thin, for the rest of their lives. Embracing a life filled with positivity can take you one step closer to finding true love, and it does not require a lot of effort, nor will it cost you anything. It has no drawbacks, and offers a multitude of benefits.

Like Leila Mulla, you can choose to focus on the positive traits of another person, instead of dwelling on his/her faults and shortcomings. Finding true love takes a great deal of acceptance of, patience for, and tolerance for the people around you. By doing so, you open yourself to a lot of possible relationships with other people, because you are not limiting yourself to people who are near-perfect. It also helps to accept that nobody is perfect – for Mulla, only God is perfect. Doing so ensures that you will not have delusions of grandeur about the people you consider to have relationships with. Also, like Mulla, you can choose to pay other people compliments – not only are they great conversation starters, but also quick pick-me-uppers that make others feel good about themselves.

Leila Mulla's Positive Movie Pick: The Pursuit of Happyness

Leila Mulla is a big positivity advocate. She believes that by living a positive life and harboring positive thoughts and emotions and by doing positive deeds, one can be happier and more content with his/her life. She believes that nothing is impossible and that being optimistic and finding the bright side to every challenge in life can help people lead better, less stressful lives. She is a person with strong personal faith, never forgetting to give thanks to the Lord for all the blessings she has been fortunate enough to receive. She further asserts that everyone is indebted to the Lord not only for the great things they have been given, but most of all for the gift of life. Leila Mulla believes that life therefore should not be wasted, as people only get to live it once.

From Leila Mulla

Among her favorite movies that highlight the value of positivity is The Pursuit of Happyness, the 2006 film that stared Will Smith. In the film, Smith's character, Chris Gardner, struggled with homelessness for a year after his wife left him and his venture into sales did not turn out well. What was initially a promising career in selling bone-density scanners quickly turned sour, as it financially breaks the family. Throughout Gardner's painful, difficult journey, he never showed signs of giving up, and in the end, thanks to his innate talent with numbers, his perseverance and his winning never-say-die attitude, he was able to emerge a successful stockbroker. He went on to form his own multi-million dollar brokerage firm.

Such is the power of positivity – it can turn any desperate situation into one full of hope—and success. More positivity tips from Leila Mulla may be found at her Facebook profile.

The Sun Will Rise Again: Leila Mulla on How Positivity Can Help Japan Recover from Tragedy

Leila Mulla is a firm believer of the power of positive thinking. Thinking positively helps the mind anticipate happiness, joy, health, and most importantly, a positive outcome out of every possible situation and action. Adapting a mental attitude that fosters positivity is conducive to growth, expansion, and success.

From Leila Mulla

From Leila Mulla

During times of severe distress or tragedy, it is common to hear people say “Think positive!” to the parties affected. This is because thinking positively not only helps victims of tragedy come to terms with what just happen, it can help them cope with the situation and turn things around, enabling them to find the silver lining and move forward with their lives. Leila Mulla cites the Japanese people as an example – despite the overwhelming loss of lives and properties brought about by the recent earthquake (the strongest their country has experienced so far) and tsunami, the Japanese people remain resilient. Days after the tragedy, they started picking up the pieces of their former lives – they go to work and to school, they go about their normal activities, despite threats of another mega-quake and the radiation fiasco. Food may be scarce, their roads may have cracks on them, electricity has not been fully restored to all affected areas, transportation is a daily dilemma for commuters, but Japan remains optimistic that this, too, shall pass. And the sun will rise in the east again. Such is the power of positive thinking and having a positive attitude – it can help a nation move past tragedy.

Leila Mulla's Top Wedding Gown Picks for Your Body Type

I am Leila Mulla, and I am a wedding planner. I cannot stress the importance of wearing the right wedding dress for your body shape enough. I have seen many gorgeous brides wearing beautiful wedding dresses, but somehow, the total look comes out wrong, or the fit is not perfect – it’s because the bride isn’t wearing the right gown for her shape. Unfortunately, your dream gown isn’t always the best gown for you. When having your gown made, consider your body type first before you decide on fabric, embellishments, and accessories. I can help you find the perfect wedding gown for your body figure. Here are some notes from the Leila Mulla Wedding Gown Guide:

• Petite brides can benefit from gowns with slim silhouettes. Empire-waist gowns are a good choice. Stay away from ball gowns, as these would make you look shorter.

From Leila Mulla courtesy of projectwedding.com

• Curvy brides with hourglass figures look great in gowns with fitted bodice and gowns with mermaid silhouettes. These cuts show off your body and flatter in all the right places.

• Plus size brides should steer clear of gowns that cling to the body. Gowns with a deep V-neckline and A-line skirts camouflage bulges and draw attention to your assets.

From Leila Mulla courtesy of projectwedding.com

• Pear-shaped brides look great in ball gowns, because they highlight a slim upper body, while the flouncy skirt hides the hips, legs, and thighs.

From Leila Mulla courtesy of projectwedding.com

• A gown with a bateau neckline is extremely flattering for brides with large chests. Strapless gowns are a no-no, because you need all the support you can get on your big day.

Of course, you can get creative when it comes to embellishments; talk to your gown maker about strategically positioning them on the bodice to either distract from your problem areas, or to draw the eyes toward your assets. Find out more about how you can find the gown of your dreams on my Twitter page.
