Leila Mulla Cares: The Positivity Advocate Volunteers for New York Cares

Already living a life filled with positive thoughts and vibes, Leila Mulla adds more optimism in her life by volunteering for New York Cares, her favorite volunteer organization.

New York Cares volunteers come from all walks of life, but have one thing in common – a passion for making a difference. The organization was founded by a group of friends who wanted to make a difference amidst the serious social issues the city had faced since the late 1980’s. Today, New York Cares is the city’s largest volunteer organization, implementing volunteer programs for 1,200 nonprofits, city agencies, and public schools.

The organization has over 53,000 people volunteer year after year. With the help of its dedicated volunteers such as Leila Mulla, New York Cares have helped 400,000 disadvantaged New Yorkers through year-round volunteer opportunities, citywide days of service, corporate volunteering, disaster preparedness, youth service opportunities, and holiday coat and gift drives.

New York Cares has received a lot of recognitions and awards for its work in New York City. Among its awards is the prestigious prize for Overall Excellence in Management by the 2009 New York Times Company Nonprofit Excellence Awards, the highest four-star rating from Charity Navigator for its organizational efficiency that same year, the HandsOn Network Innovation Award for its outstanding vision through innovative community service and volunteering, and it also ranked 11th in Crain’s New York’s 2008 list of the best places to work in the city.
